every election matters

How has Chuck Schumer been held unaccountable for so long?

If you are old enough to remember the Presidential Election of 2000, you should recall how you felt once you learned the outcome. Al Gore won the popular vote yet lost the Electoral College vote. This has been why an overwhelming majority of Americans favor abolishing the entity.

That was not the reason for the controversy over the election however. It boiled down to one state, Florida. Vice President Gore was originally declared the winner of the state, then the games and shenanigans began. The obvious starting point would be the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush. The Republican candidate’s younger brother.

It took the Supreme Court of the United States to decide the outcome of the election. Stop counting the votes and give Florida and the Presidency to George W. Bush. It did not have to stop there.

Congress tried to fight back

Members of the House of Representatives fought to keep the re-count vote in Florida moving forward until all the ballots were counted. After all, isn’t that what democracy is all about? let every voice be heard via the ballot box. This is the foundation of freedom.

Here is where I wind up scratching my head. Traditionally, Democrats used the tactic of “matador defense” when facing an obstacle. They let the threat go by them, and let the rest of us fend for ourselves as the bull charges. It only emboldens the bull to keep charging since there is no opposition.

House members presented a letter to the Senate opposing seating George W. Bush as President. For this motion to be heard, it required the signature from one senator, just one. Democrats had control of the senate as well. Not one senator had the courage to finish letting the people’s voices be heard.

They work for the people!

Looking at the facts, Democrats had the majority in 2000. How did any of these so called leaders get re-elected? I do not have the answer to that question, but there is one remedy available. Pissed off voters that feel betrayed by this slap in the face by democratic senators then can root out the last member of that class.

Chuck Schumer D-NY, is one of two remaining members currently serving in the Senate that turned his back on a majority of voters. Dianne Feinstein D-CA, is the other. In 20 years, neither senator has never been forthright with voters on why they abandoned the Vice President. This was Schumer’s first term in the senate, usually when elected officials try and make a name for themselves in D.C., but he did nothing. Sen. Feinstein had been in the Senate eights years by this point.

One signature could have prevented invading Iraq, avoiding the housing market crash of 2008, maybe 9/11 does not happen. By doing nothing and plying with your red cape, you allowed senseless misery on the American people.

They did not stand up for us, it is time to primary them.
